Shane Bassa
May 12, 1987 - May 12, 2021
In Loving Memory
Shane became involved in the FASD Society as a Youth Mentor in 2010 - 11. He was the mentor for many of our young men in our youth program. He supported the youth to explore their skills, challenge themselves to do better and not to be afraid to explore new experiences. He was their biggest cheerleader.
Sonja Schmidt, Shanes’ mom, encouraged him to become involved as a youth worker. Through this Shane explored the possibility of frontline work.
Over the years Shane stayed involved with the NWR FASD Society, and accessed the supports he needed along the way. Over the last two years, Shane became more accepting of the programming and supports we provided.
We will miss his smile and gentle manner whenever we brought over his groceries. “Stay safe” was always his parting words as he wanted no one to get COVID. He worried about his family, and everyone he came in contact with. His very polite follow-up text “Thank you for getting my groceries”, no matter if we mixed up his order or he didn’t get exactly what he wanted.
Shane, despite his many challenges, was always the gentleman, and always there to apologize when he slipped up.
Shane, may your Spirit find the Peace you sought on this journey to join the Dad that you missed so much.
