FASD Month 2024

The theme for FASD awareness month for 2024 was “Everyone Plays a Part”. We held events and contests all month long to spread the message of this theme and to get our community involved with FASD awareness!

The 9km weekly walking challenge

During the entire month of September we challenged community members to try and walk 9km per week for an entry into a draw at the end of the month. Each week of successfully walking 9km was a entry to the challenge. We had a record number of participants complete the challenge and had a blast walking 9 km a week in honor of 9 months of healthy pregnancy. The prize for this challenge was a $100 gift card towards a new pair of shoes!

Everyone Plays a Part: photo contest

The second activity we planned was a photo contest. We designed 6 cardboard figures of different individuals within the community and placed them in local businesses around town. Then we challenged people to find them, take a picture with them, and send it in to us for an entry into our draw.

Over the course of the month hints were released giving a few tips on where you could find the cutouts so people had a better chance to locate all 6 figures and get the maximum amount of entries.

This contest was made possible by donations from the Mackenzie Family Resource Network. Thank you for helping us make this challenge be such a success!

FASD Day: September 9th

Every year on the 9th day of the 9th month we host a FASD Day celebration. Begging at 9am we lead a community wide walk which is supported by the local school and local businesses and then later in the day we have a fun BBQ at our office.
